You've paid for the click. What happens next decides whether that money turns into a customer. Many small businesses send Facebook and Instagram ad traffic straight to their homepage, and then wonder why the ads "don't work." Often the ad is fine; the page it lands on isn't built for that visitor.

What's the difference?

A website homepage serves everyone: new visitors, returning customers, job seekers, partners. It offers many paths. A landing page serves one audience with one offer and one action. It removes distractions so the visitor who clicked your ad sees exactly what the ad promised.

When to send ads to a landing page

  • Your ad promotes a specific offer (a free consultation, a seasonal deal, a free quote).
  • You're targeting a specific audience or service.
  • You want to measure exactly how well a campaign converts.
  • Your homepage has lots of navigation and competing calls to action.

When your homepage is fine

If your ad is a general brand-awareness campaign, or your homepage already leads with a single clear offer and one primary action, it can work well. The key is that the visitor should see the same promise as the ad within the first screen.

What a high-converting ad landing page includes

  1. A headline that matches the ad's promise, word for word where possible.
  2. One primary call to action, repeated down the page.
  3. Proof: genuine reviews, examples of your work, or recognizable clients you have permission to show.
  4. A short explanation of what happens after they act.
  5. A short form, or a one-tap WhatsApp or call option for mobile visitors.
  6. Fast loading on mobile. Ad visitors are impatient.
  7. Tracking (such as the Meta Pixel) so you can see which ads produce leads.

Don't forget message match

If the ad shows a bakery's custom cakes and the landing page opens on a generic "Welcome to our bakery" banner, the visitor has to work to reconnect the two. Keep the imagery, wording and offer consistent from ad to page.
